Shuji Terayama Song
A single by Otagh
Shuji Terayama (1935-1983) was a Japanese avant-garde poet, screenwriter, writer, director and photographer. His work ranged from radio drama, television production, underground theatre (Angura) to Japanese new wave cinema. Many consider him to be one of Japan’s most influential and controversial creative minds and his influence can be seen in the work of a wide array of Japanese filmmakers from the 1970s onwards.
The Shuji Terayama Song is the result of a collaboration between Otagh band and Tsuyoshi Ozawa, a Japanese visual artist. Mr. Ozawa has exhibited his work in some of Japan’s most renowned galleries including the Mori Museum of Art in Tokyo and the Hiroshima Museum of Art. In his latest exhibition, "The Return of …", he tells the story of several well-known historical figures in different contexts, using a combination of painting, video and music. His imagined return of Shuji Tarayama is one section of this work and has been produced in collaboration with Otagh band.
