Shuji Terayama (1935-1983) was a renowned Japanese avant-garde poet, screenwriter, writer, director, and photographer whose creative oeuvre encompassed a wide range of media including radio drama, television production, underground theatre (Angura), and Japanese new wave cinema. He is widely regarded as one of Japan's most influential and controversial creative minds and has inspired the works of many Japanese filmmakers since the 1970s.
The Shūji Terayama song is a collaboration between Otagh Band and Tsuyoshi Ozawa, a Japanese visual artist who has exhibited his work at several well-known galleries, including the Mori Museum of Art in Tokyo and the Hiroshima Museum of Art. Ozawa's latest exhibition, "The Return of…," features a variety of historical figures portrayed in different contexts through a combination of painting, video, and music. One section of the exhibit explores the imagined return of Shūji Terayama and has been produced in partnership with Otagh Band.
