Kayhan Kalhor & Rembrandt Trio: A Fusion of Persian Classical and Jazz

KAYHAN KALHOR & REMBRANDT TRIO

Join us on Friday 14 November 2025 at Cadogan Hall for a truly special evening celebrating musical dialogue across cultures. Persian kamancheh virtuoso Kayhan Kalhor and the acclaimed Rembrandt Trio return to London as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival 2025.

Since their first collaboration in 2013, Kalhor and the three Dutch jazz musicians — Rembrandt Frerichs (piano), Tony Overwater (bass), and Vinsent Planjer (drums) — have performed around the world, forging a deep artistic bond that led to their celebrated album It’s Still Autumn.

Praised for its seamless fusion of Persian and Western traditions, the album embodies a rare harmony and an entirely new sound. Kalhor has long been a leading figure in bringing Persian music to international audiences, while the Rembrandt Trio is known for its innovative blend of Middle Eastern art music and contemporary jazz.

Their performances feature distinctive instruments, including a modern copy of a 1790 fortepiano, a 1650 violone, and Planjer’s self-invented “Whisper Kit”, a unique percussion setup combining instruments from diverse cultures and eras.

Together with Kalhor’s expressive kamancheh, these instruments create an evocative sound world that transcends genres and boundaries — a true meeting of musical souls.
